Netcentric Summer Parties 2016

We work hard and know how to have fun.

Summer fun at Netcentric

Summer this year exploded at Netcentric. The diversity of the parties and events we all attended reflects the international and culturally diverse nature of our teams across all our locations. Ideas for what to do come from the teams themselves. If someone has a great idea, that's what everyone does. Sometimes, the events are intended to help internationally diverse groups get to know more about the culture of the city they're living and working in, but it's not prescriptive. What matters is that people spend a day relaxing together and having fun.

Read about some of the Netcentric summer events that took place this year to get more of a flavour. And who knows? Maybe you'll be helping your team decide what to do in the summer of 2017.

Basking in the Barcelona sun

Fun is more or less synonymous with Barcelona. There are so many amazing things to do, you could have a Netcentric event every day of the year, especially with a group of like-minded, easy-going, friendly people.

A tough choice, yes, absolutely, but in the end the team settled on the exclusive Club Nàutic Garraf as the venue for this year’s summer party. This club is famous of its water sports and Netcentric’s Barcelona team spent a very active and enjoyable morning scuba diving, paddle surfing and sailing before reconvening on the club’s stunning rooftop terrace for a well-earned Spanish paella lunch. Being Barcelona, it is of course entirely possible that the party continued into the early hours of the morning. Who can say?

Berlin & Dresden

Buses took us from Berlin and Dresden to Lübben, where – armed with a Netcentric bag containing water, a jar of Spreewald gherkins, sun cream, insect repellent, a rain cape and a plan for the day – we all met up, travelling by boat to the pretty village of Lehde.

In Lehde, we spent two hours “Geocaching”. We were given a map, a navigation device and questions to answer by finding small clue capsules. We also had to take pictures and record videos of us dancing or acting in a fairytale…

We came back for our barbecue in heavy rain. After a few drinks, the winners received prizes - and our Netcentric purple rain capes saved the day.

Spreewald schnapps and cake were enjoyed on the way back to Berlin, where we watched Germany win the quarter final of the European Football Championship. Hurrah!

This was the first Netcentric Summer Event held in Frankfurt and the team spent the day at LoftAGE, a popular and distinctive event location in a converted storage facility.

The event got off to a great start with the German tradition of coffee and cake. With everyone energised, the party games begun. The team played games like flipping confetti spots with tweezers, pulling string out of a bottle without knocking off the ping pong ball balanced on the top and knocking over water bottles with tennis balls while wearing a pair of tights over their heads. The games brought out the teams' competitive nature - and it was great fun seeing such high spirits in action.

After all the excitement it was time for a barbecue. What better way to nourish the Hunger Game enthusiasts before competing once again - this time on hover boards. The game was intended for the kids, but was won by a very competitive team. Nevertheless, what a summer event it wa

Anyone for cricket in London?

Cricket is about as British as it gets, but for most of the Netcentric team in London - who are not British - the sport has always been a mystery.

This year the team spent the day at the home of the Surrey County Cricket Club - the Oval - to try to get to grips with the complex rules, soak up the atmosphere, but above all, to have fun together whilst watching a Surrey vs. Essex T20 game.

The day represented British culture one hundred percent, starting off with a few classic British showers. The weather continued to influence the game which was eventually won – thanks to the sun making a late appearance - by Essex. Despite the weather, it was a wonderful day out and we didn't even mind that the Swiss team spent part of the day watching football. It was a great British day out.

Our fourth Munich Netcentric Summer took the form of a cruise on the Ammersee, a large lake to the south west of Munich with a stunning mountain backdrop. We boarded the MS Augsburg in Hersching – and with a welcome drink followed by coffee and cake - we toured around the lake.

Before (our fabulous) dinner, we had great fun playing games together, with our new Netcentric joiners competing against some of the founding employees. Here’s a taster of some of them:

- Blind tasting
- Surfing around the boat
- Games of skill of different types
- Guess how far our office locations are away from Ammersee
- Guess whose legs? Blind-folded, you have to identify someone by feeling their legs

All in all, it was a great day out, enjoyed by all.

The Zurich team chose something truly original for their Summer Event this year. Or, you could say it was entirely appropriate, given what was happening in Rio… They chose a day of Farmer Olympics at the Juckerfarm on the Pfäffikersee, a stunning lake to the north east of the city. In case you’re wondering, Famer Olympics involves competing against fellow Netcentric employees at cherry stone spitting, cow milking (the milk was in fact water, the cow was not real) and plastic chicken slingshot shooting – to mention a few. In fact, there were ten disciplines in all.

After all that exertion, the team were rewarded with a wonderful barbecue, loads of salads and potato gratin. The sun shone, everyone was in a great mood. In short, a fantastic day.
